Hackers attack Vietnam's pro-democracy site

A Vietnamese pro-democracy Web site set up by pro-democracy activist and academic Tran Khue, and the U.S.-based Nguyen Xuan Ngai, has been forced to close following an apparent hacking attack less than a month since it went 'live'.  The site publishes articles on by political analysts on all aspects of democratization in Vietnam.

Visitors to the “Voice of Democracy” were greeted with the notice : “Entry Forbidden! You are not allowed to download this Web page,”  in Vietnamese, which is similar to the message that can be viewed when surfers try to view overseas websites blocked by the Communist government. A few hours later, the Web page re-appeared at its usual address, but with no articles visible. A line of text below the title read: “This is the Web page of liars.” Repeated attempts to load the page  failed.

The site producers feel that the attack was politically motivated and view it as even more proof that Vietnam is not a free country.
